Janitorial Responsibilities for Southpoint Surgery Center – Operating Rooms

Initial Cleaning:

  • Damp dust surgical lights and reflectors with disinfectant solution. Dry with a clean dry cloth.
  • Damp wipe all furniture to include the back table, prep table, ring stands, and operating table with disinfectant solution

Between Case Cleaning:

  • Gather all litter from the floors and deposit in waste containers.
  • Collect all linen, dispose of in appropriate hamper bags for the laundry. Note: Dispose of linen from open packs, whether soiled or not, in the proper linen hamper. If linen is wet or soiled double the bag.
  • Discard any soiled sponges, suction canisters, tubing, and other waste as infectious waste as per local SOP.
  • Depending upon local SOP, the contamination of the floor and the procedures involved, the floor may need to be cleaned between cases. Move the operating table to the periphery of the room. Flood the floor surface for three to four feet around operative side with disinfectant solution. The area of flooding will be extended to include any spillage or contamination as necessary.
  • Damp wipe the operating table with disinfectant solution removing all blood and soiled materials. Remake the operating table.
  • Damp wipe all furniture, back table, ring stands, x-ray view boxes, kick buckets and scrub sinks. Roll castors and wheels of furniture through disinfectant solution on the floor.
  • Spot clean walls and ceilings if necessary.
  • Damp wipe overhead lamps, dry with clean dry cloth.
  • Replace linen hamper bags and trash liners.
  • Pick up disinfectant solution from floor using wet vacuum.
  • Strip litters after each use and damp wipe with disinfectant solution. Remake litters with clean sheet

Terminal Cleaning:

  • Move all removable equipment and furniture to the hallway or opposite side of the room.
  • Scrub all kick buckets and racks.
  • Vacuum air conditioner grills.
  • Clean all shelves and cabinets.
  • Damp wipe with disinfectant solution all overhead lights.
  • Wash wall surfaces with disinfectant solution.
  • Damp wipe all furniture and equipment, include wheels and castors.
  • Empty all soap dispensers, change tubing, disassemble foot pedals, and clean dispensers and foot pedal, refill dispensers and reassemble foot pedal.
  • Remove the operating table cushion and removable pads, scrub cushions and pads in sink. Thoroughly clean the entire operating table, remake the operating table.
  • Scrub all sinks with disinfectant solution.
  • Flood floor with disinfectant solution, machine scrub and pick up solution with vacuum.
  • Clean the wet vacuum as necessary.
  • Return all furniture and equipment to the room when the floor has dried.

End of Day Cleaning:

  • Properly bag, seal and remove soiled linen to collection points.
  • Scrub all furniture with disinfectant solution. Clean wheels and castors of all debris.
  • Damp wipe all wall mounted equipment, wipe dry with clean dry cloth.
  • Wipe all kick buckets, racks and waste receptacles with disinfectant solution.
  • Wipe doors of all cabinets and the room doors, especially around the handles and push plates, and restock supply cabinets.
  • Take off and clean the operating table cushions and removable pads, remake the operating table.
  • Replace all linen hamper bags and trash liners.
  • Scrub all sinks with disinfectant solution.
  • Flood floor with disinfectant solution and pick up with wet vacuum.
  • Return all equipment and furniture to the proper area.
  • Clean the wet vacuum as necessary.
